High Queen Khalida

In life, Khalida Neferher of Lybaras was called the Warrior-Queen, and her devotion to Asaph (goddess of grace, magic, and vengeance) was so complete that her people swore the goddess looked out through her eyes. It was Khalida who first saw what her beloved cousin Neferata had become behind the silk curtains of Lahmia, and Khalida alone who named the corruption aloud while every other crown looked away. Neferata's answer was venom and treachery. Struck down and dying, Khalida was offered the immortality of the blood as her cousin's twisted consolation; she spent her final breath praying to Asaph instead, asking for vengeance in place of eternity. The goddess, it is said, granted both.

When the dead of Nehekhara rose, Khalida rose apart. Where the other monarchs creak with the stiffness of centuries, she moves like her goddess: supple and swift as a striking asp, cold as temple stone. She holds no court and does not sleep as other kings sleep; she waits, enshrined in Lybaras, until word comes of the blood-curse taking root somewhere in the world. Then the Warrior-Queen wakes and her serpent-bannered legions march. Her war is not conquest but purgation (patient, ceremonial, absolute), and it will not end while one inheritor of Lahmia's treachery still walks the night. Vampires who fear nothing that lives are careful, even now, about speaking her name.
