Hammerers

The Hammerers are the personal bodyguard of a dwarf king, chosen from the toughest and most unyielding warriors of the hold and entrusted with the sacred duty of guarding their lord's life. Wielding heavy two-handed warhammers and clad in fine armour, they form a grim, immovable wall around their king, and there is no surer way to die than to try to break through it. Their discipline is legendary even among dwarfs (a people not known for wavering), and they will hold their ground to the last, for to allow harm to come to their liege is a dishonour no Hammerer could survive. In battle their warhammers rise and fall with brutal, mechanical certainty, crushing armour and bone alike and toppling the mightiest of the foe's champions. Grimmer still are the Hammerers who guard the High King himself, and grimmest of all is the fate of any enemy who mistakes dwarf patience for weakness and closes to grips with these silent, hammer-wielding sentinels of stone and iron.
