The Solitaire

The Solitaire is less a person than a fate, the loneliest and most dreaded role in all the Dance Without End. In the great myth-cycle of the Aeldari fall, someone must portray She Who Thirsts, the Great Enemy whose birth doomed the race, and to take that role is to be damned. The Player who becomes a Solitaire severs every bond with kin and masque, gives up name and companionship, and dances thereafter alone, for it is said that in performing the role of Slaanesh they have promised their soul to the very god they portray.

A Solitaire's skill is beyond mortal reckoning. They move faster than sight, faster than thought, a blur of monomolecular blades that no warrior can follow and no formation can withstand. Cegorach unleashes them only when the myth demands a death that nothing living can prevent, and they cut through the mightiest champions like a whisper through silk.

Yet for all their peerless artistry, the Solitaires are figures of profound tragedy, warriors who have accepted damnation so that the Dance may be complete, dancing forever apart, laughing and alone, at the very edge of the abyss their people fear above all else.
