The Eastern Fringe

The Eastern Fringe is the ragged outer edge of Ultima Segmentum, the frontier where the light of the Astronomican grows thin and the Imperium's grip loosens toward nothing. Beyond it lies only the intergalactic void, and it is from that lightless gulf that some of the galaxy's greatest terrors have emerged.

Here the young and vigorous Tau Empire carves out its expanding domain, spreading its creed of the Greater Good across worlds the Imperium is too overstretched to hold. And here, drifting silently out of the dark between galaxies, came the first tendrils of the Tyranids, the great devourer whose hive fleets have since stripped countless systems of every last scrap of life. The Fringe was where humanity first learned the true meaning of that hunger.

It is a place of frontier worlds and isolated outposts, of rogue traders chasing fortune beyond the map's edge and Imperial commanders left to fend for themselves against threats no relief force will ever reach in time. The Eastern Fringe is the Imperium's uneasy borderland, a region where the certainties of the galactic core dissolve into peril, opportunity, and the ever-present dread of what may yet come drifting in from the outer dark.
