The Nachmund Gauntlet

The Nachmund Gauntlet is a fragile thread of navigable warp winding through the churning chaos of the Great Rift, one of the few passages by which fleets may cross from the Imperium Sanctus to the storm-lashed worlds of the Imperium Nihilus. Named for the Nachmund system that anchors its far end, the corridor is no safe road, only a slightly less lethal one than the raw madness that surrounds it.

The Space Marines and Imperial fleets that run the Gauntlet do so knowing the passage may collapse without warning, hurling their vessels into the warp's raw fury. Every convoy is a gamble, every crossing a battle against tides that shift and howl. The strategic worth of the corridor is beyond price, for whoever controls it controls the flow of reinforcement between the Imperium's severed halves.

Inevitably, the forces of the Chaos Space Marines covet the Gauntlet as fiercely as the Imperium defends it. War rages endlessly along its length, in the void and upon the worlds that guard its mouths, as traitor warbands seek to choke the passage and strand billions in the darkness of the Nihilus. Along this narrow, blood-soaked road, the fate of half a galaxy is decided ship by ship, world by world.
