Ghost Ark

The Ghost Ark is a skeletal barge of gleaming metal that glides above the battlefield on silent anti-grav engines, its open, cage-like frame carrying a phalanx of necron warriors into the heart of the fighting. Its origins are as grim as anything in the necrons' long history, for the first Ghost Arks were built to haul the broken bodies of the necrontyr to the biotransference chambers, where their flesh would be stripped away and their essence poured into undying metal.

As that terrible programme unfolded and resistance grew, the Arks came to be crewed by the earliest of the converted, and whatever mercy their purpose had once pretended to hold was abandoned entirely. In time the mere silhouette of a Ghost Ark against the sky was enough to spread terror through those who understood its work, and the myths of the necrontyr held that the tormented souls of the condemned still swarmed thick about the drifting wagons, wailing for the bodies they had lost.

Upon the modern battlefield the Ghost Ark is both transport and field-repair engine. Its flanks bristle with gauss flayer arrays, banks of disintegrating weaponry that scythe down anything in their path, while its repair barge systems reach out to activate the reanimation protocols of nearby warriors, dragging the fallen back to their feet mid-advance. Shielded by adaptive quantum fields and clad in self-healing necrodermis, it endures punishment that would gut a lesser vehicle, ferrying its silent cargo tirelessly onward.
