Hedonites of Slaanesh

Slaanesh, the Dark Prince of Chaos, is the god of excess in all things: perfection pursued past reason, appetite sharpened into worship, beauty honed until it cuts. Yet the youngest of the Dark Gods is also the absent one. At the death of the world-that-was, Slaanesh gorged on the souls of a dying people and, heavy with that feast, was ambushed by the vengeful gods of the aelves. They chained him in the Hidden Gloaming, a nowhere-place between the realms of Light and Shadow, where his captors draw the stolen souls out of him drop by patient drop, like vintners bleeding a cask.

His worshippers woke to silence where a god had been. What followed was not collapse but ferment: freed from a single divine will, the Hedonites of Slaanesh became a hundred competing visions of devotion. Invaders hosts swarm the realms as leaderless tides of rival champions, each straining to out-dazzle the rest. Pretenders crown themselves heirs to the vacant throne and rule their hosts as gods-in-rehearsal. And the Godseekers, the restless heart of the faith, ride the realms end to end chasing every rumour of the hidden prison, certain that the finding of Slaanesh will be history's most perfect moment, and that they must be first to it.

To outsiders the Hedonites look like an army of revels, but their creed is discipline of a terrible kind. A Slaaneshi blade-master drills one stroke for a mortal lifetime; a Slaaneshi archer scores her volleys the way a poet scans verse. Perfection is the obsession, sensation the currency, and boredom the only death they fear. Nor is the sword their sharpest weapon. Temptation marches ahead of every host: whispered promises, gifts that cannot be refused, the patient corrosion of every noble intention. And many cities conquered by the Hedonites opened their own gates, convinced until the final hour that they were being offered something rather than taken.

And the prison leaks. Slaanesh's essence seeps through the cracks of his confinement to seed new cults, new daemons, new hungers, while his captors' siphoning grows ever more delicate and desperate. The Hedonites read each omen of that leakage like hounds tasting wind, and their hunt tightens year by year. Should they succeed, the realms will face a Dark Prince swollen with an age of stolen souls and sharpened by an age of humiliation: a god of excess who has spent his imprisonment perfecting, in exquisite detail, precisely what he will do when he is free.
