Chart of The Old World

The Badlands stretch south of the Empire in a broken expanse of scorched hills, dead volcanoes, and the shattered remnants of once-great civilisations. Long ago the Dwarfs raised proud holds among these peaks, but war and cataclysm brought them low, and now their halls lie choked with rubble and infested with fouler things. It is a land that remembers greatness only in ruins.

Into that vacuum have poured the Orc & Goblin Tribes, who breed and brawl across the Badlands in numbers beyond counting. From this blighted heartland erupt the great Waaaghs that periodically threaten the civilised lands to the north, tides of greenskin savagery that must be met with fire and steel. Between such storms the tribes war endlessly among themselves, painting the ash-grey wastes with one another's blood.

Agents and mercenaries of the Empire of Man venture into the Badlands only for the direst need, whether to plunder dwarf-gold from forgotten vaults or to gauge the gathering of the next horde. Few return, and fewer still return whole. The Badlands offer nothing freely, only hardship, ruin, and the ceaseless promise of violence beneath a sky the colour of old smoke.
