Night Runners

The Night Runners are the raw apprentices of Clan Eshin, the assassins' clan, sent scurrying into battle to learn the killing trade or die in the attempt. Cloaked in dark rags and armed with a jangling assortment of blades, throwing stars, and stolen weapons, they move in swift, skulking packs along the edges of the battlefield, seeking out lightly guarded flanks and unwary foes to swarm under. They are not yet the silent murderers their masters have become, and few survive long enough to graduate to the ranks of the Gutter Runners, but their numbers and speed make them useful screens and skirmishers. A Night Runner fights with the desperate energy of a creature that knows it is watched by unforgiving eyes, striking fast and fading back into cover. Those who prove too slow feed the clan's reputation for ruthlessness; those who prove quick enough may one day become something far worse.
