The Bladeguard Veterans are the sword-sworn elite of the Primaris Space Marines, warriors who have set aside the bolt rifle to master the blade in an age when few Astartes still specialise in the close assault. Their tradition reaches back to ancient honour guards of Ultramar, revived and spread across the Chapters in the armies Roboute Guilliman raised to save the Imperium.
Each Bladeguard bears a master-crafted power sword and a storm shield, and drills endlessly until the two move as one, an offence and a defence woven together into a single lethal discipline. Advancing behind their shields through withering fire, they close the distance and then unleash a storm of precise, decapitating strokes, carving apart elite enemy infantry and monstrous foes that would butcher lesser troops.
They serve too as the chosen protectors of their commanders, forming a living bulwark of ceramite and steel around captains and Chapter Masters. Steadfast, honourable and supremely skilled, the Bladeguard Veterans embody the ideal of the warrior-knight, proof that even in this age of massed firearms the sword still has its place in the Emperor's wars.
