Tank Commander

The Tank Commander is the finest breed of Astra Militarum armour officer, a veteran who has survived enough battles to earn command of his own Leman Russ and the squadron that rolls in its wake. From the commander's cupola he directs not only his own crew but every tank around him, calling targets, coordinating fire and pressing the advance with a boldness lesser officers lack.

The Leman Russ itself is a byword for Imperial durability, a slab-sided battle tank whose thick armour and heavy main gun let it trade blows with far more sophisticated enemy machines and still grind forward over the wreckage. Under a skilled commander a squadron of them becomes an unstoppable spearhead, rolling across shattered ground to smash fortifications, obliterate infantry and duel enemy armour into scrap.

The greatest tank commanders, men whose names become watchwords across entire crusades, seem to read the flow of an armoured battle by pure instinct, always in the right place to blunt a breakthrough or exploit a gap. To ride to war behind such an officer is to trust that the thunder of his guns will carry the day.
